GCash, the most successful fintech app in the Philippines, has launched a new feature that allows users to receive US dollars from anyone in the United States—companies, OFWs, clients, or donors. This new feature, called the Virtual US Account, is powered by Meridian Payments US, which issues and maintains the account under a “for benefit of” arrangement.
To create a Virtual US Account, users must be fully verified, at least 18 years old, have at least one valid Philippine ID, and maintain good GCash account standing. When opening the US bank account through the GCash app, users will be required to submit a valid ID and take a selfie for verification. Since GCash does not have full control over this service, users are encouraged to carefully read the Terms of Service and User Agreement of Meridian Payments United States, Inc. and Meridian North America, Incorporated.
How Does the Virtual US Account in GCash Work?
Once you successfully open a Virtual US Account, you will be able to receive US dollars directly from your family or contacts in the US. Transactions are fast, seamless, and come with lower fees compared to traditional remittance services.
Your Virtual US Account is not a savings account. You will not earn interest, and the funds are not insured. Therefore, it should be used only as a receiving account.
If your family or anyone in the US wants to send you money, you simply need to provide your account number, your name, the bank name (SSB Bank), and the bank’s address or routing number if required. All of this information is available in your Virtual US Account section within the GCash app.
Once you provide these details, anyone in the US can send US dollars to your account via bank transfer, either through their mobile banking app or at their bank.
For more details, you may read the full terms and conditions for this service on the Gcash Website.
