Thai authorities are stepping up efforts to combat illegal online lending platforms after dozens of suspicious loan applications were flagged for removal.
According to government officials, the Bank of Thailand submitted 79 loan-related applications to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society for legal review and possible blocking. Investigations revealed that 57 of the applications were operating without proper registration.
On the Bangkok Post, Ploytalay Laksmeesangchan said the ministry worked together with the Fiscal Policy Office to obtain court orders aimed at removing the unauthorized apps from online marketplaces and preventing further circulation.
Officials also reported that authorities successfully removed 1,466 web addresses between Oct. 1, 2025, and May 17, 2026 as part of the wider campaign against online financial scams.
Many fraudulent lenders reportedly attract users through websites and social media advertisements promising quick approval, low interest rates, limited paperwork, and loan access for individuals rejected by traditional financial institutions.
The government is encouraging the public to confirm whether digital lending services are officially licensed by checking the Bank of Thailand official website before applying for any online loan service.
