In the latest news from Manila Bulletin published on December 16, 2025, Globe Telecom Inc. and GCash are rolling out a new technology designed to secure user identities without the need for manual inputs or one-time passwords (OTPs). This advancement marks a major shift in how the country's leading digital wallet protects its millions of users from evolving cyber threats.
Globe recently confirmed the completion of the first phase of its proof of concept for Silent Network Authentication (SNA). This next-generation verification scheme works by directly checking if the mobile number provided matches the active SIM card in the current data session. Because the process happens at the network level, it eliminates the need for users to wait for an SMS code and manually type it into the app.
The primary goal of this technology is to eliminate the risks associated with phishing. Traditionally, fraudsters trick users into revealing their OTPs through fake messages or websites to gain unauthorized access to accounts. By removing the OTP from the equation, Globe and GCash are closing a major loophole used by cybercriminals.
KD Dizon, vice president and head of Globe Business, emphasized that integrating SNA into GCash reflects an urgent need for security and convenience to coexist. According to Dizon, this network-level innovation ensures a more worry-free experience for Filipinos who rely on digital platforms for their daily transactions.
SNA is a core component of Globe’s G Verify, an anti-fraud portfolio that combines network-level solutions and application programming interfaces (APIs). This system is built to protect both individual customers and larger enterprises from sophisticated cyber threats.
The adoption of this technology aligns with international benchmarks established by the GSMA and the CAMARA open-source global initiative. Furthermore, it supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in its advocacy for stronger digital security across the national financial sector.
By solidifying the foundation of trust, Globe believes this initiative will revolutionize access to essential digital services. The company stated that this empowers partners like GCash to create more intuitive and safer digital experiences, ultimately driving a future where every Filipino can confidently participate in the digital economy.
